LISTENING IS AN ART
Good listening is the first step toward knowledge and communication or anything else. As per CCE and Formation Assessment introduced by CBSE it has become the foundation rock of progress and achievement. No one can deny the importance of both listening and communication as both account for the formation of the society. Communication is to make others agree, make the speaker heard, instruct others, motivate others, and inspire others. All this effort would fail and go waste if it results in misunderstanding and it is not difficult to find the most important thing that has been lost track of i.e. Listening. Thus, we can see that listening is twice as important as talking if one wants to communicate one’s feeling and ideas, wants to know how others think then it can be possible, but only when one knows the art of listening. Good listening enables us to talk to people and help us bridge the communication gap.
How to enhance this art of listening?
Make that person one’s focus
. Face the person one is listening to
. Try to be attentive to understand the emotions and feeling behind the words being spoken
. Acknowledge and confirm the message
. Paraphrase and repeat key points
. Maintain regular eye contact.
